Simple homemade exfoliating mask recipes

The good news is that, as there are different recipes, you can always choose to make the one from which you have all the ingredients on hand. Remember to always consult a dermatologist before resorting to these alternatives, in order to avoid adverse reactions and choose the treatment that best suits your skin style.

Also, if you are in the middle of a treatment process with specific medications or products, remember that these natural remedies cannot replace the doctor’s instructions.

1. Sugar scrub for skin

In which house is there no sugar? You may even be discontinuing it to try healthier alternatives in your infusions, for example.

So, take advantage of refined sugar to make this homemade mask that is widespread in popular beliefs, but still with little scientific evidence. To prepare it, you have to mix:

  • 7 tablespoons of sugar (70 g)
  • 5 tablespoons of oil (75 ml)

Some recommend using almond oil (with benefits for the skin proven by studies) or special for babies but, if you don’t have it, you can use olive oil or even corn oil.

You will have a thick and granulated mixture, with which you should perform circular massages on the skin, previously washed with warm water. It not only works for the face, but also for the body. Rub evenly and then bathe with hot water.

When you get out of the shower, use whatever moisturizer you have, or apply a cotton ball soaked in milk. It is a somewhat strong exfoliation, therefore, it is not advisable to perform it more than twice a month and we must always have the approval of a doctor. It is not recommended for people with overly sensitive skin.

2. Lemon scrub for the face

Before offering you the recipe, it is good that you take into account some important issues of using lemon for cosmetics or beauty. This fruit has properties to exfoliate and to remove skin blemishes, but it can also cause opposite effects.

To do this, always use lemon at night and do not go out without having completely removed it, especially if you use it on your face and it is summer. It can cause staining if it comes in contact with the sun.

Before using this homemade lemon scrub, ask a dermatologist for information on its convenience and use. You only have to mix two ingredients:

  • The juice of ½ lemon
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar (30 g)

Rub into your skin, massaging in a circular motion on clean, slightly damp skin. Then rinse well. Be careful if you have a too sensitive or white dermis.

For the lemon aroma to remain in your body, popular recipes recommend adding a few drops of green tea, for example, which will also give a feeling of purity and vitality to the skin.

3. Homemade banana scrub

If you have bought bananas and they are too ripe, you can use them to prepare exfoliating masks. It is not worth eating them! This delicious fruit has the property of nourishing the skin, as well as softening and illuminating due to its pasty consistency.

Preparing this scrub is very easy. You just have to follow these steps:

  • Press the banana until it is pureed.
  • Add 4 tablespoons of sugar (40 g)
  • Mix well, without having a too watery consistency. If this happens, add more sugar.

Apply to facial or body skin after cleansing with warm water, and rinse in the shower. If you want, you can use sea salts or Epsom salts instead of sugar.

4. Homemade coffee scrub

Coffee has many properties when used topically. It can be an aid to fight cellulite, for example, or to exfoliate our body of dead cells and dirt that we accumulate throughout the day due to perspiration, smog (or polluting fog), dust, etc.

In this sense, this research analyzed the possibility of creating a skin care cosmetic using residues from coffee production. Indeed, its beneficial properties were proven.

Traditional recipes recommend using any cream to mix with the coffee grounds and apply to the face or body in circular motions. It is also said that you can exfoliate your body while bathing with the used coffee directly. Do not forget to moisturize the area well and, as always, carry out this process with the prior approval of a professional.

5. Oatmeal and milk or yogurt scrub

Especially if there are children in the house, these elements are never lacking in the kitchen. You can take advantage of the fact that oat flakes have beneficial and safe properties for the skin and also use it to show off a radiant, soft and young skin (leave some for breakfast the other day).

To get the mask, you only have to mix three ingredients:

  • ½ cup of ground oats (50 g)
  • Milk or yogurt, what is necessary to get a somewhat consistent paste.
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar (10 g)

Instead of enjoying yogurt in the morning … use it to remove debris from your skin! Apply in the place you want through circular massages. Afterwards, wash with warm water and moisturize with a moisturizer.

Based on popular belief, you could also use granola. In theory, with half a cup and a little hot water or milk, you could make exfoliating masks. The application steps would be the same as the previous one.

6. Honey scrub with flaxseed

We already had sugar, coffee and oatmeal in the rankings  to make the best exfoliating masks. But we were missing the honey! Undoubtedly, it is an essential ingredient in homes, because it serves both for a tea when we are sick and to sweeten a cake.

In this case, you will use honey to remove impurities from your face and add other benefits for the skin that have even been scientifically proven, such as delaying the appearance of wrinkles.

To make your exfoliating masks, you must mix three ingredients well:

  • 1/2 cup of honey (125 ml)
  • ½ glass of warm water (100 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed powder (studies confirm the benefits of flaxseed oil for the skin) (30 g)

You will get a consistent paste. Put it in the fridge for a few hours and then rub the skin with this mask, making circular movements. Some people use it on the elbows and knees.
