It is a typical sweet of the gastronomy of Venezuela. But you don’t have to travel to this Latin American country to be able to enjoy canned milk powder and coconut, you can prepare it at home. It’s easy and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients. You dare?

Ingredients:

  • 600 grams of sugar
  • 250 cc of water
  • 120 grams of powdered milk
  • 200 grams of grated coconut
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

  • First, in a bowl, place the grated coconut and mix with the powdered milk. Reservation.
  • Then, heat the water with the sugar in a saucepan over high heat until it starts to boil. Mix well to form the “soft ball” point.
  • Remove from the heat and while stirring, gradually add the grated coconut mixture with powdered milk, finally add the vanilla essence.
  • If possible, beat with electric stirrers at low speed for a few minutes, so that the mixture is well homogeneous.
  • Pour into a pan lined with parchment paper and spread well using a spatula.
  • Finally, refrigerate for at least 3 hours and then cut into squares (individual portions).

In this case, you will use the whole coconut (the fruit) instead of the grated one. You can get it in some markets or fairs, so it will not be a problem.

You need:

  • 2 coconuts
  • 2 liters of milk
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 1 and ½ kg of sugar

How do you prepare?

  • First extract the pulp from the two coconuts, remove the inside and grate.
  • Then, in a saucepan, heat one of the liters of milk with the coconut over medium heat until it softens.
  • Then, pour in the rest of the milk and add the sugar while stirring.
  • When the mixture has homogenized, add the condensed milk and continue beating so that it integrates well (until the mixture does not come off easily from the saucepan).
  • Finally, remove from the heat and when it has cooled a bit, spread in a mold with paraffin paper or similar, put in the fridge for about 3 hours and then cut into squares or the shape you want, for each portion.

Before we explain how this recipe is prepared, we have to make a warning: It is addictive! You will not be able to stop eating, so those who are on a diet, better refrain from preparing it.
