Lemon Marquise

La marquesa is a cold Venezuelan cake that does not need an oven and is very easy to make. It is the ideal dessert to serve with guests, because you will look great with minimal effort that does not consume much time. Traditionally this dessert has been made with chocolate, but it can also be made with Nutella, Oreo cookies, almonds, or lemon. Here we explain how to make lemon marquise so you can surprise your friends and amaze your mother-in-law.

Option 1: Lemon marquise

Ingredients:

  • 700 g of condensed milk
  • 250g cream cheese
  • 4 lemons
  • ½ package of Maria cookies

Process:

  • Squeeze the lemons carefully so that no seeds slip through.
  • Mix the condensed milk with the cream cheese and the lemon juice. It can be by hand or with the help of a mixer.
  • Beat until obtaining a homogeneous mixture with a creamy texture and more or less thick.
  • In a serving dish, place a layer of cookies. Then put one of lemon cream, another of cookies and so on until finishing with a layer of cream.
  • Spread the cream well with the help of a spatula.
  • Refrigerate a minimum of 4 hours, although it is best to spend the night in the refrigerator.
  • It is not necessary to unmold to consume.

Option 2: Lemon marquise with syrup

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of condensed milk
  • ¾ cup of lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 package of Maria cookies
  • 1 cup light syrup

Process:

  • Beat the condensed milk with the lemon zest, adding the juice little by little, until it has the desired acid point. It should be a very thick cream.
  • Prepare the syrup. Boil a cup of water and a cup of sugar for 10 minutes. If desired, you can add a splash of rum or sweet wine. Remove from the fire.
  • In a serving tray about 20 cm long, place a layer of biscuits dipped in syrup, then a layer of cream, another layer of biscuits, and so on until a layer of cream is finished.
  • Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours.

Option 3: Lemon marquise

Ingredients:

  • Maria cookies
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • ½ cup of natural lemon juice
  • Lemon zest for garnish

Process:

  • In a bowl, mix the condensed milk with the lemon juice. It is better to do it little by little and go testing, to regulate the acidity of the mixture.
  • Pour the half cup of milk into a bowl.
  • Soak the Maria cookies in milk (turn and turn so they don’t fall apart) and place them at the base of a serving platter.
  • Place a layer of lemon cream on the cookies, then another of cookies soaked in milk, another of cream and so on until the ingredients are finished, making sure that the last layer is cream.
  • Put in the fridge overnight or for at least 4 hours.
  • Garnish with lemon zest.
