The properties of the arnica flower
The first thing that will catch your attention about the arnica flower is its aromatic fragrance. It is a strong but pleasant smell, like its flavor if we prepare an infusion with its leaves.
Why is the arnica flower so beneficial for treating pain?
The basic reason why its petals are able to relieve pain and resolve inflammatory processes is due to the presence of gallic acid in its composition:
- Gallic acid acts as a powerful antioxidant capable of inhibiting chemicals such as cytokines and histamines that initiate inflammatory processes. Researchgate , an academic network aimed at researchers, collected an interesting work published in April 2014 and carried out by several experts, which explained the great benefits of gallic acid to reduce muscle pain.
- It is a natural phenolic acid that can dissolve in water and thus still maintains its properties.
- Gallic acid is also present but in lesser amounts in blueberries, walnuts, and apples.
Other healing components
- The flower contains essential oils suitable to reduce inflammation.
- It also contains carotenoids, arnicin, saponin, sterols and isoquercitin.
- In ancient times, tincture of arnica ( tincture arnicae ) was made to heal and disinfect wounds. Today we can already find creams with this same composition in our pharmacies to treat these problems.
Some important notes
- There are medicines that also contain arnica extract to facilitate blood circulation. However, we should never use this plant for this purpose. In other words, if we have a heart problem, our doctors will always tell us the guidelines that we must follow.
- It is not advisable to take arnica in the form of an infusion, at least on a regular basis . We can drink some infusion in a punctual way, but not daily.
