Homemade Tomato Sauce: Taste Of Home

Preparing a homemade tomato sauce not only helps the dishes acquire a much more homely and special flavor, but also allows us to find the exact point of each ingredient, thus helping us to enjoy the recipes even more.

The mixture of tomato, garlic, turmeric and red pepper with a touch of black pepper allows us to obtain an exquisite sauce that will not leave any diner indifferent.

Homemade tomato sauce recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 red pepper.
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 6 very ripe tomatoes.
  • 1 pinch of sea salt.
  • 1 pinch of whole cane sugar.
  • Extra virgin olive oil (to taste).
  • Black pepper (to taste) 
  • Optional: turmeric, cayenne pepper.

Preparation

  • We will mince the garlic well and reserve.
  • We will cut the red pepper into small pieces and fry it.
  • Meanwhile, we will wash and peel the tomatoes.
  • Next, we will grate them or we will beat them. We can also choose to crush them if we prefer that the sauce has tomato pieces.
  • In a saucepan we will put the pepper and tomato sauce.
  • We will put it to simmer and add the spices, sea salt and brown sugar.
  • We will let it cook for 45 minutes.
  • At the last minute, just after turning off the heat, we will add the minced garlic cloves.
  • We can re-beat the sauce so that there are no chunks of pepper and garlic, or we can leave it like that.
  • We will taste it and, if necessary, add more salt.
  • If we want to give it a personal touch, we can add other vegetables (onion, green pepper, zucchini, eggplant, etc.) and other spices or aromatic plants (oregano, bay leaf, basil, cumin, curry, etc.).
  • We will let the sauce cool and it will be ready to accompany all kinds of dishes: rice, pasta, vegetables, fillings, etc.

Conservation of homemade tomato sauce

  • To preserve it, we can keep it in hermetically closed glass jars.
  • In the fridge it can last us up to a week.
  • However, if we decide to make more quantity at once, we must store it in the freezer.
